Gawadar port is being built in Pakistan by the Chinese as part of the ambitious $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) that will eventually serve as Hong Kong West for growing Chinese trade with the Middle East and Europe. CPEC will also enable Pakistan to bypass Afghanistan to trade with Central Asia through China across China's borders with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Gwadar port's planned capacity when it is completed will be 300 to 400 million tons of cargo annually. It is comparable to the capacity of all of India's ports combined annual capacity of 500 million tons of cargo today. It is far larger than the 10-12 million tons cargo handling capacity planned for Chabahar. To put Gwadar's scale in perspective, let's compare it with the largest US port of...
(7 Jul 2017) The head of Qatar's main commercial port said on Friday that it is operating "at full capacity" but that it has not seen an increase in traffic after borders were closed by its neighbouring countries. Qatar depends almost entirely on food imports to feed its roughly 2 million residents, much of which previously came through its only land border, which it shares with Saudi Arabia. Early last month, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain broke ties with Qatar and restricted access to land, sea and air routes over allegations it funds extremism — an accusation Doha rejects. The countries delivered a list of demands to end the embargo over a week ago, and have said that more economic isolation could follow should Doha fail to meet them. The move has left...

China's coastal ports enable the transportation of coal, containers, imported iron ore, and grain; roll-on-roll-off operations between mainland and islands; and deep-water access to the sea. In port construction, China has especially strengthened the container transport system, concentrating on the construction of a group of deep-water container wharves at Dalian, Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen and Shenzhen, and thus laying the foundations for China's container hubs. A new deep-water port has opened in Yangshan southeast of Shanghai. The coal transportation system has been further strengthened with the construction of a number of coal transport wharves. In addition, wharves handling crude oil and iron ore imports have been reconstructed or expanded. At the end of 2004, China's ...
GWADAR PORT Currently, Pakistan has two main operating international deep-sea ports: Karachi Port and Port Qasim. During the coming years, their capacity expansion programs are unlikely to keep pace with the expected growth in demand, resulting in a need for a third port to fill the gap. In particular, Karachi Port has significant physical limitations and will not be able to grow at the same speed as the national growth in demand over the coming decades. These limitations result mainly from its location, which is within the city of Karachi itself, which has seen very rapid growth over the past years. In the case of Port Qasim, although having a large physical space for expansion, its possible speed of development is hampered by its up-stream location, which is more than 40 km from the o...
Kenya has commissioned a new container terminal at the Port of Mombasa to boost its cargo handling capacity. The two-hundred and 96-million dollar facility is expected to increase cargo volume by 50 percent. Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta says the completion of the terminal marks another milestone for the maritime sector, as well as Kenya's bid to facilitate the region's international trade. The new terminal will ramp up Mombasa's existing annual cargo handling capacity from 1million to 1.6 million.

Technische Universität Darmstadt Fabian Walter, Chair of Management and Logistics Ralf Elbert, Chair of Management and Logistics In the Port of Hamburg in Germany over nine million containers are transshipped every year. Till now the early provision of information for both the estimated time of arrival of vessels and containers is not established. As the research focus is set to import container flow with hinterland mode rail within carrier’s haulage – here the deep sea carrier organizes pre- and on-carriage – the delay of vessel means a delay of containers and at the end a delay of trains or in worst case not transported containers for the hinterland. Furthermore the terminal has no information about the hinterland mode selected. The objective of the simulation is to compare the effects b...
Traffic estimates from the Kenyan government, suggest that by 2023, the port of Mombasa will run out of room to handle more cargo, at present growth rates. That's why an entirely new port is being built, some 200 kilometers north of Mombasa in Lamu, with road, air and rail links from it, to the horn of Africa, and East Africa. Earlier, I spoke to Silvester Kasuku, CEO of the LAPSSET Authority, and asked him how much all of this, will cost the Kenyan taxpayer Subscribe to us on YouTube: http://ow.ly/Zvqj30aIsgY Follow us on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cgtnafrica/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/cgtnafrica

The Vincennes Pet Port told News 10 Thursday, a recent influx of run away and stray animals has caused the shelter to be over capacity. This, despite administrators adopting out an average of 30 animals a month. If pet port director Laura Arial could take home all of these animals, the Vincennes shelter would be in great shape. But unfortunately, she doesn' t have the room. The shelter is running out of it too. "I would say 99% of the animals that we pick up do not have any tags on them at all," said Laur
